The Empowering Tanzanian Youth for Climate Resilience programme marked the inaugural
implementation of a structured youth engagement model in climate action. Launched in December 2023, this phase focused on mobilizing young people in Mtwara to become climate advocates and implementers of community-based environmental The approach integrated climate education workshops, the formation of school environmental clubs, and community-wide awareness campaigns. A total of 534 youth were trained through six intensive workshops, resulting in a 75% average increase in participants’ understanding of climate change. These capacity-building efforts directly empowered youth to take action within their communities. Cohort 1 catalyzed the implementation of over 10 community projects, including the planting of 1839 trees with a 90% survival rate, and eight waste collection and cleanliness campaigns. These efforts not only enhanced local environmental conditions but also demonstrated the potential of youth to lead sustainable, impactful change.
